ADELE releases video for SOMEONE LIKE YOU
Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born in Tottenham, London, England, to a single teenage mother on 5 May 1988. Known professionally as Adele, is an English singer-songwriter. She was the first recipient of the Brit Awards Critics’ Choice and was named the number-one predicted breakthrough act of 2008 in an annual BBC poll of music critics, Sound of 2008. Since her debut album 19, Adele has received much recognition both commercially and critically. The album debuted at number one, and has been certified 4x platinum in the UK. Her career in the US was boosted by a viewer record–breaking Saturday Night Live episode in late 2008. At the 2009 Grammy Awards, Adele won the awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Despite having the year’s best-selling album and two of the biggest singles in recent history, Adele hasn’t been a music-video machine.
Sure, her “Rolling in the Deep” clip was nominated for seven awards at last month’s VMAs, but that track — much like her current smash, the stirring “Someone Like You” — became better known for its near-ubiquity on radio. And so far, it was the only video released from her massive 21album.
But that’s about to change. Because on Thursday September 29, 2011, she unveiled the second clip off the record, for “Someone Like You.”
Adele’s current single, Someone Like You, managed to top the charts on both sides of the Atlantic without the help of an official music video. But a little more than seven months after the English vocalist’s performance of the ballad at the BRIT Awards became the most effective way to dredge up the bittersweet memories of a failed romance, she’s released a video.
The clip, shot in grainy black and white by Jake Nava (Beyonce’s Single Ladies, Kanye West’s Monster), debuted online Thursday night. And befitting the rawness of the track, the video’s simplicity is its strength.

Adele, looking as ‘60s bombshell glam as ever, walks alone at dawn, singing through the deserted streets of Paris.
There’s something about street lamps, cafes and the River Seine that lend an air of melancholic elegance to what would otherwise be just another walk of shame by a girl with two-day-old hair. Not everyone gets to indulge in moments as tragic but beautiful as a weepy solitary walk through Paris landmarks. But then, we don’t all have voices as tragic and beautiful as Adele’s, either.
According to Nava, the video’s director, the clip’s Parisian setting was key. “The location evokes style and romance,” he explained in a statement. “And shooting early in the morning allows you to focus on Adele in this lonely and emotional space,” he continued — never mind how it probably helped the crew avoid all the tourists who would have photo-bombed every weepy shot.
