UniArte sponsored their first “Meet & Greet” to showcase artists from the Dutch Caribbean.
It took place on Friday November 25, 2011, in Amsterdam, at Heesterveld (H-spot) #75, Amsterdam Zuidoost. This event was free and open to the public. Click on the link to watch a part of the event: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10150383986391930
The event included spoken word, theater, films, sculptures, paintings, and photography by Dutch Caribbean artists. Holly Bynoe wrote down, “The goal of this night is to introduce the audience to various art forms displayed and performed by numerous emerging artists from the Dutch Caribbean. Also, Uniarte would like to make use of the opportunity to expose Dutch Caribbean people in a positive light, which is especially important following the changes with regard to the status of these islands within the Kingdom.”

Uniarte aims to unite Dutch Caribbean artists and promote their work, but also to create a general awareness of art among Dutch and Caribbean communities, and in particular art from emerging artists from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St Eustatius, and St Martin/Sint Maarten.
What is Uniarte?
To help upcoming “Dutch Caribbean” artists get ahead in their field of expertise and promote art in communities that has been exposed to art in a limited manner.
There are three pillars, which represent the goals of Uniarte: research, exposure and continuity.
Research is the foundation of Uniarte because this actually forms the groundwork for the other two objectives, which are exposure and continuity. Exposure is the second objective, which comes forth out of the research that is done about artists. Continuity is the third element, which makes the circle whole and is only possible if the basic research has been done.
