The adorable girl Rachel Crow was the latest to be voted out by America who incurred the lowest votes during the deadlock elimination night at The X Factor USA Season 1.
Lenny Kravitz kicks off the show with a performance of his new single Rock Star City Life and Are You Gonna Go My Way, and Mary J. Blige sang Need Someone. Between those performances, two top vote-getters made it through: Josh Krajcik, the final over-30 singer, and Chris Rene, who sang an original number Wednesday.
Melanie was the last act voted through, leaving Rachel and Marcus to perform for the judges’ approval.
Marcus, who has landed in the final faceoff twice before, sang a heartfelt version of Rose Royce‘s I’m Going Down. Rachel, a shaken-up 13-year-old newbie to the elimination stage, belted a big version of Etta James‘ I’d Rather Go Blind.
L.A. Reid said that he was surprised by Rachel’s impressive performance, but stuck with his guy, Marcus. Simon Cowell said, “I’m gonna miss you,” and sent home Marcus. Paula Abdul said Rachel blew her away, and voted to send Marcus home.
Which left it all up to Nicole Scherzinger. Who was frozen by indecision.
“I can’t make this decision,” she said. “I’ll have to go to a deadlock.” Host Steve Jones reminded her she had to make a choice, and only a tie would send it to deadlock. So she tearfully and reluctantly voted to send Rachel home.
That meant the act that got the lowest number of votes from America was eliminated.
And that act was Rachel.
Upon hearing that she was headed home, Rachel collapsed in tears , taking several moments to compose herself. She rallied to say she loved her family and her voters, and added, “I know this is not my ending.”
X Factor USA contestant Rachel Crow has told fans not to be angry with Nicole Scherzinger following her elimination from the show.
Crow dissolved into tears on stage after the result was announced, while Scherzinger had to be comforted by Abdul when she also began to cry. Scherzinger was later booed by the audience when host Steve Jones asked for her thoughts on the result.
Writing on her Twitter account after the show, Crow said: “Thank u so much to all of my fans I love you so much. I am sad tonight but I will bounce back and be fine tomorrow 🙂
“Please don’t be angry with @nicolesherzy she was put in such a tough position. I love u all so much… I am so thankful to have such amazing fans thank u for sticking by me. I love u with all my heart. (sic)”
She added in a message to Canty: “I <3 u big brother everything is gonna be alright :)”
In an interview with the X Factor website, Crow said that she spoke with Scherzinger following the elimination: “She was crying really hard. I told her it will be okay. She was crying buckets still an hour after the show.
“I was really sad like, ‘Why are you crying? It will be fine’. She said, ‘I didn’t mean to send you home…’ I was like, ‘It’s okay. It was meant to be. God did this for me’.”
The teenager also revealed that some of her fellow contestants were equally upset about her departure: “[Marcus] was kind of sad and I was like, ‘Why are you sad, boy? You should be celebrating!’ Melanie was crying so hard, like me last week when Drew went home. I told her to stop crying and it will be fine.”
Crow had told the audience after her exit: “I love you so much everybody for voting me… Thank you for giving me this because without you I am nothing.
“I hope this is not my ending. You know what, I know it’s not. I will go so far, I promise you. I love you. And to my family, you are amazing and made so many sacrifices for me.”
Cowell wrote on his own Twitter after the show: “Rachel went out on a high tonight. Thanks to everyone who voted for her.”
Crow had performed ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ by Etta James for her survival song. The previous night she had sung B.o.B‘s ‘Nothing On You’ and Michael Jackson‘s ‘Music and Me’.
The remaining contestants in the running for the $5 million recording contract prize are: Melanie Amaro, Josh Krajcik, Chris Rene and Marcus Canty.
X Factor continues Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8/7c on Fox.
Rachel you will be dearly missed on the show, but the entertainment industry worldwide will still see your impact for the years to come. Your cover of Micheal Jackson’s “Music and Me” was your best performance ever, you did it with so much passion.. couldn’t imagine that would be the last performance of Rachel Crow on the show. The other songs I love you in where these ones. Love you adorable Rachel G!
