Music industry great, Clive Davis premiered the new Whitney Houston duet with R. Kelly I Look to You in “On Air with Ryan Seacrest“, and talked about working with the Houston family on an upcoming TV special.
“She went into a studio by herself in Los Angeles and recorded two verses and a chorus of the song, which R. Kelly had written for her and for our album. I was just knocked out by it. To hear Whitney, as Whitney again, to hear her, the full flower of her voice it really showed the potential when she was ready to record again.” Said Clive Davis.
R. Kelly sang “I Look to You” at Houston’s funeral and, as Davis relayed, “there was not a dry eye in the house.” It was after Kelly’s rendition that Clive Davis decided to greenlight this duet.

“As I lay me down
Heaven hear me now
I’m lost without a cost
After giving it my allWinter storms have come
And darkened my sun
After all that I’ve been through
Who on earth can I turn toI look to you
I look to you
After all my strength is gone
In you I can be strong
I look to you
I look to you
And when melodies are gone
In you I hear a song
I look to youAbout to lose my breath
There’s no more fighting left
I’m thinking to rise no more
Searching for that open door
And every road that I’ve taken
Lead to my regrets
And I don’t know if I’m gon’ make it
Nothing to do but lift my headI look to you
I look to you
After all my strength is gone
In you I can be strong
I look to you
I look to you
And when melodies are gone
In you I hear a song
I look to you.”
