WILLEMSTAD — The Dutch production company Endemol has ambitious plans with Curaçao. After Bon Bini Beach and De Erfenis (The Inheritance), Endemol now wants to produce a Curaçao television novella. To attract sponsors, the production company made shots last November for the trailer of the youth television novella ‘Ki Bo Ke Men’ (excuse me?). This was presented to the case, local crew and sponsors yesterday. The trailer of ‘Ki Bo Ke Men’ serves as forerunner of the television novella awaiting production.

The story of the series is about seven youngsters from one class, of different cultures, sharing love and sorrow. Classic themes, such as love, friendship, pregnancy and crime form the core. The series takes place on Curaçao and made especially for the island. The main language of ‘Ki Bo Ke Men’ is therefore Papiamentu.

To-date, Endemol Netherlands has invested the most in the project. Although Fundashon Bon Intenshon is also a financer, Endemol is seeking more local financers in order to make the series reality. Executive producer Annemieke van Vliet is aiming for a series in ten parts. TeleCuraçao already indicated they want to broadcast the series.

Alaric Smeets and Kelly van der Kwast though up and wrote ‘Ki Bo Ke Men’. The production is in the hands of Anne de Clercq. Apart from actor Lieke van Lexmond (Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden (Good Times, Bad Times)); the cast consists exclusively of Curaçao actors, amongst whom, Elyse Isebia, Roxette Capriles, Richandell Martis, Gwendell Mercelina Jr, and Ruënna ‘Suku’ Mercelina.

De Nederlandse productiemaatschappij Endemol heeft grootse plannen met Curaçao. Na Bon Bini Beach en De Erfenis wil Endemol een Curaçaose telenovela van de grond krijgen. Om sponsors warm te krijgen heeft de productiemaatschappij vorig jaar november opnames gemaakt voor de trailer van de jeugdtelenovela ‘Ki Bo Ke Men’(hoe bedoel je).

Deze is gisteren aan de cast, lokale crew en sponsors gepresenteerd. De trailer van ‘Ki Bo Ke Men’ dient als voorloper van de nog te ontwikkelen telenovela.Het verhaal van de serie draait om zeven jongeren uit één klas, van verschillende culturen, die lief en leed met elkaar delen. Klassieke thema’s, zoals liefde, vriendschap, zwangerschap en criminaliteit vormen de kern.

De serie speelt zich af op Curaçao en wordt ook speciaal voor het eiland gemaakt. De hoofdtaal van ‘Ki Bo Ke Men’ is dan ook Papiaments. Endemol Nederland heeft tot nu toe het meeste geld in het project gestoken. Andere geldschieter is Fundashon Bon Intenshon. Ondanks dat zoekt Endemol naar meer lokale geldschieters om de serie ook echt te kunnen maken. Uitvoerend producent Annemieke Van Vliet mikt op een tiendelige serie. TeleCuraçao heeft al aangegeven de serie te willen uitzenden.

‘Ki Bo Ke Men’ is bedacht en geschreven door Alaric Smeets en Kelly van der Kwast. Regie is in handen van Anne de Clercq. Op actrice Lieke van Lexmond (Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden) na bestaat de cast uitsluitend uit Curaçaose acteurs en actrices waaronder: Elyse Isebia, Roxette Capriles, Richandell Martis, Gwendell Mercelina jr, en Ruënna ‘Suku’ Mercelina.
